题目一：Ramsey’s theorem and convex polygons

内容简介：Among any six people there are either three who all know each other or three none of whom know each other, but this does not have to happen among five people.  This is a simple special case of Ramsey’s theorem, first proved in the 1930’s.  Its importance was underestimated until the 1960’s when mathematicians began to find many far-reaching applications.  I will discuss the following application in geometry:  If you have lots of points in the plane, no three on a line, then there must be one million of them which are the vertices of a convex one-milion-gon.

报告人简介：A.B. Harvard College, with honors in physics，PhD University of Wisconsin；先后在Iowa State University、Amherst College、University of Malawi、Chiang Mai University、West Virginia University担任助理教授、副教授和教授，在组合数学领域取得重要成果，发表论文38篇，在相关会议和研讨班做专题讲座近百场。
